Australia win the Ashes as England fold

Australia have regained the Ashes after winning the third Test against England in Perth.
Having already won the first two Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide, Australia took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, winning back the Ashes having lost them for the first time in 18 years in England 16 months ago. [via]

Sprout eater's record bid fails


A man from Devon hoping to set a world record by eating the most Brussel sprouts in a minute has failed after falling short of the target by seven. The previous world record was set in December 2003 where the title holder ate 43 Brussel sprouts. After cramming the sprouts into his mouth with a toothpick, he said: "I do not think I could face another sprout for a few days." [via]

World's most expensive Christmas tree

A Singapore jeweler named Soo Kee Jewellery hasproduced the world’s most expensive Christmas tree. Currently on display at Bugis Junction shopping mall in Singapore, it is encrusted with 21,798 glittering diamonds totaling 913 carats, 3,762 crystal beads and is decorated with 456 lights. The tree is worth US $1,005,000, weighing at 3,215 kg, with a height of 6 meters. [via]
